This is one of my recent favorites—a beautiful box adorned with two small cranes on either side.
I love how versatile this design is; depending on where you make the small cuts, you can create countless variations.
It’s a wonderful way to express your own creativity!
What You’ll Need
First, you’ll need origami paper, scissors, and glue.
You don’t need anything special.
Folding Instructions
First, make some folds.
Fold it into a square twice, then fold it into a triangle twice.
Unfold it, then fold the top and bottom corners toward the center.
Unfold it again.
Next, fold the top and bottom corners along the creases you just made.
From here on, it’s like rolling it up.
Fold the small triangle that appears along the crease.
Next, align it with the center line and fold it.
Next, fold along the dotted line, passing through the center point.
Be sure to keep the right angle in mind at all times.
Do the same on the other side.
Pull the part marked with a circle toward you to open it.
Surprisingly, a pentagon appears.
Next, fold this pentagon along the dotted lines.
Now a triangle appears.
Fold the other side in the same way.
Once you’re done with the other side, it will look like a pentagon.
Next, fold the triangles on both sides.
Fold two cranes
I’ve laid the pentagon on its side.
Fold the top and bottom triangles inward.
Then, fold along the blue dotted line toward the opposite side.
Next, make two creases.
Fold each one like this.
If you fold along the dotted line, you’ll get a small triangle.
Then, open it out to the left and right and fold it.
A small square will appear.
Use this square to make a crane.
Fold the large triangle on the left over it to form a pentagon.
Fold the other side in the same way.
Let’s turn this small square into a crane.
First, make a crease and open it up.
Fold it over and make a cut.
This cut will determine the direction the crane faces.
You can make the cut on the right side if you prefer, or on both sides.
If you make cuts on both sides, you’ll also get a tail.
Make the neck, and it’s done.
Open up the marked area and apply glue.
And that’s it—it’s finally finished.
As you can see, square boxes are cute too.
Plus, you can always turn them into cranes.
